Utah State University’s Space Dynamics Laboratory, a leading provider of aerospace and defense technologies for the U.S. government, has achieved AS9100D certification, the international quality management system standard for the aerospace and defense industry. The certification, granted by Systems Certification Body, demonstrates SDL’s commitment to excellence.

AS9100D is a rigorous and internationally recognized standard that requires organizations to exhibit their ability to consistently provide products and services that meet customer and regulatory requirements. Achieving this certification entails a substantial investment of time and resources dedicated to quality management.

“We are extremely proud to have achieved AS9100D certification,” said Jed Hancock, president of SDL. “This achievement is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our more than 1,000 employees and their commitment to providing the highest-quality products and services to our government partners. We are honored to continue to build upon our reputation for delivering new technologies that help advance science and defend our nation.”

By achieving AS9100D certification, SDL is well positioned to meet the expectations of the aerospace and defense industry for the highest levels of quality and reliability. This certification represents a significant milestone in SDL’s history and sets the stage for continued growth and success in the years to come.

“AS9100D certification helps to ensure that SDL is meeting the needs of our partners and stakeholders, which increases customer satisfaction. AS9100D focuses on risk management, safety, and product conformity, enabling SDL to better identify and mitigate risks, enhance safety, and improve product quality,” said Craig Hensley, SDL’s senior manager for quality assurance. “The entire SDL team worked tirelessly to meet the requirements of AS9100D. We believe that this certification will provide our partners with even greater confidence in SDL’s ability to meet their needs.”

In addition to AS9100D certification, SDL was already certified to ISO 9001:2015, which is the international standard for quality management systems across all industries. The transition from ISO 9001:2015 to AS9100D further illustrates SDL’s commitment to quality management and continuous improvement.

Headquartered on Utah State University’s Innovation Campus in North Logan, UT, the Space Dynamics Laboratory is a nonprofit organization and a Department of Defense University Affiliated Research Center owned by USU. More than 1,000 dedicated SDL engineers, scientists, business professionals, and student employees solve technical challenges faced by the military, science community, and industry and support NASA’s vision to explore the secrets of the universe for the benefit of all.
