Navigation State Estimation

Navigation is the science of estimating where you are, where you are going, and where you are pointed, or position, velocity, and attitude (PVA). Timely and accurate PVA estimates are critical to many high-performance sensors and systems. SDL has extensive experience in designing and implementing custom Kalman filters to blend inertial navigation systems (INS) with a wide range of aiding sources, including GPS, stellar (i.e., star cameras) imagery, radar, and Lidar. In addition to custom Kalman filters, SDL has experience integrating commercial-off-the-shelf systems and operating state-of-the-art GPS/INS post-processing software to enable centimeter level position accuracy. SDL also has an active research program designed to expand the state of the art in areas related to GPS-denied navigation and satellite rendezvous and proximity operations.
